Sunrise Observing Ritual

Watching the sunrise has become a cherished ritual for me since 2020, during a very challenging time in my life.

It was an intuitive pull to gently coax myself out of bed and face the day ahead.

Yet, what started as a coping mechanism has evolved into a source of joy and inspiration that I still treasure today.

The serenity of the early morning moments, the golden hues painting the sky, and the feeling of connection to nature—it’s truly magical.

Some of the noted benefits from various research in observing the Sunrise 🌅:

1. Improved Mood: It can trigger the release of serotonin, a neurotransmitter associated with happiness and well-being. A study published in the Journal of Affective Disorders found that exposure to natural light, including sunrise, was linked to improved mood & reduced symptoms of depression.

2. Reduced Stress: Research published in the International Journal of Biometeorology suggests that exposure to natural light, such as sunrise & sunset, can positively impact stress regulation and overall psychological well-being.

3. Enhanced Circadian Rhythms: Sunrises help regulate the body’s internal clock, known as the circadian rhythm. Exposure to natural light in the morning, particularly during sunrise, helps synchronize the body’s internal clock with the external environment, leading to better sleep patterns and overall health.

4. Increased Vitamin D Synthesis: essential for bone health, immune function, and mood regulation.

5. Connection to Nature: Watching the sunrise fosters a sense of connection to nature, which has been associated with numerous psychological benefits, including increased happiness, greater life satisfaction. Studies have shown that spending time in natural environments can improve mood and cognitive function.

6. Mindfulness and Gratitude: to appreciate the natural spectacle of the rising sun, individuals may become more present in the moment & develop a greater sense of appreciation for the world around them.
